David A. – San Antonio

Service Dog Express - San Antonio

AnxietyI was born in Honolulu, HI and have been all over the United States while in the military.  However, I claim San Antonio as my home, where I have lived for about 20 years.  I am a veteran, and while in the Air Force, I was a Missile and Space Facility Specialist and I kept the ICBM support facility and equipment operational.  I retired from the USAF in 2006.

After retirement, I attended Mott Community College and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree in both Computer Administration and Network Engineering.  I also earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Cyber Security.

I have been diagnosed with childhood PTSD, flashbacks, night terrors, and an odd form of Degenerative Disc disease, with Intervertebral Disc Syndrome

I have raised and trained dogs for obedience since a young age. I always received compliments from others concerning their well-maintained behavior.

AssistanceIn 2013, I started obedience and Service Dog training as it related to my disabilities, so that I could use my Rottweiler, “Bubbles”, as my service animal.  Bubbles passed the Public Access Test, and performs tasks specific to my disabilities.  He assists in reminding me when to take medication, he is a partial mobility animal, and he assists with my anxiety issues, performing “front cover”, “back cover”, and Deep Pressure Therapy.  SD “Bubbles” also wakes me from nightmares.  When I have PTSD flashbacks at times, he leans heavily against my leg to remind me of the “present”.  SD Bubbles consistently acts with the utmost professionalism in any public situation, and every day we are together, we learn more and more as a team.

Since my two girls are still in Elementary school, I joined the volunteer Watch D.O.G. team.  I have also been active with working with Special Needs children at the elementary school level.

I enjoy the mental and physical challenges of the martial arts.  I enjoy it so much that I hold a Black Belt (1 Dan) in Tae Kwon Do, a Brown Belt in Aikido, and a Brown Sash in Tai Chi.

I have learned a lot concerning behavior of canines over the years and hope to pass on those years of training and experience to those that I can.  I have an outgoing personality and enjoy helping others.
